History
Curriculum / History
At Ward End Primary School, we aim to inspire our young historians whose understanding of the past leads to an understanding of the present. We want to ignite our children’s curiosity toward a love of history through encouraging our children to be inquisitive learners and to ask questions. When investigating life in the past, our children will gain a sense of chronological awareness, identity and cultural understanding. Through exploring the actions of significant people and events of Britain’s past and that of the wider world, we aim to empower children’s understanding of how different human societies have arrived at where they are today. Our carefully designed and sequenced enquiry-driven curriculum, gives children the knowledge and skills through first hand experiences such as visits, visitors, handling artefacts, examining sources, storytelling and drama and role play.
“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”
– Marcus Garvey
