Admissions
Children are admitted to school in the September following their fourth birthday. Following Birmingham City Council’s determined admissions arrangements, places are offered in the following order of priority:
Children with an Education Health and Care Plan
Any child with an Education Health and Care Plan is required to be admitted to the school that is named in their plan. This gives such children overall priority for admission to the named school. This is not an oversubscription criterion.
Oversubscription Criteria
- Looked after or previously looked after children (including previously looked after children from outside of England).
- Siblings; brother or sister who will still be in attendance (not Nursery) in the September that admission is sought.
- Distance (children who live nearest the school measured in a straight line).
Within each of these categories, priority is given to those who live nearest the school, calculated on the basis of a straight-line measurement between the applicant’s home address and the school gate.

Applying for a reception class admission
Parent/carers should visit the School Admissions website to make their application here: School age – when can your child start school? | Apply for reception class or primary school | Birmingham City Council. Applications open on 1 October each year and the closing date for on-time applications is the 15 January for the following year. Late applications can be made from 16 January to 31 July each year. Once the closing date of 31 July elapses parent/carer’s that have not made a late application by this date are required to make an In-Year application directly to the school, please see section below.
Applying for an In-Year admission
Parent/carers that wish to make an In-Year application should complete the following form and return it to our school: Application for a change of school (In-year) | Birmingham City Council. Reception school applications are now open for children turning 4 before 31 August 2026.
Please help us spread the word to parent/carers and families you work with.
It’s important for families to apply on time as late applicants are less likely to be offered a place at any of their preferred schools.

The School Appeals Process
There is advice available for parent/carers regarding the appeals process from the Department for Education. View the guidance for appeals.
A new School Admission Appeals Code was implemented on 1 October 2022. View the School Admission Appeals Code 2022.
The new Appeals Code allows appeal hearings to be held remotely by video conference. Birmingham City Council conducts appeals using Microsoft Teams.
Families will be able to access their hearing using a mobile telephone, tablet, laptop or any device that can access the internet via an internet browser.
Full and clear instructions will be provided with the appeal invite.
Submitted appeals will be processed in due course, and you will receive an invitation for your appeal hearing from the School Appeals Team approximately 14 days prior to the hearing .
You will also be provided with an information leaflet with more details on how the hearings will operate.
Please note that both the School Admissions and Fair Access Service and the School Appeals Team request that, if you need to contact someone about your appeal, you use email wherever possible.

Submit additional information
If you submit additional information on the day of the hearing, the independent appeal panel will decide whether to consider it, taking into account its significance.
Pupil Photographs
In addition, we make take photos of your child during the year, and they will be shared with parents only, for example on reports, certificates, behaviour logs etc.
Parents then give permissions for school to share pupils’ photos; in school on displays, on our website or more widely on social media etc. Permissions are added to BromCom by parents for school to follow.
