KiVa

At Ward End, we aim to ensure that all children learn and grow in a safe and happy school environment. In order to achieve this aim, we strive to ensure all children understand the need for respect, kindness and support for ourselves and others. As a result, this year we have introduced a new antibullying program called KiVa (which means ‘being kind’) that has been developed in the University of Turku, Finland which we have now introduced into the school PSHE curriculum. The program is evidence-based meaning that the effectiveness of KiVa has been proven scientifically.
The goals of KiVa are:
-
To prevent new bullying cases from emerging.
-
To tackle bullying cases effectively.
-
To minimise the negative effects caused by bullying.
Every month, children from Years 3 to 6 will be taught a KiVa lesson which gives opportunities for discussion and reflection on specific topics within anti-bullying. Furthermore, children in these Year Groups have access to the KiVa games which they can use at home and school to further develop their understanding of the lessons that have been taught.
Years 3 and 4 have access to KiVa Game 1- all children in these Year Groups have the same username and password which will have been provided to them by their class teacher.
Years 5 and 6 have access to KiVa Game 2- all the children in these Year Groups have their own individual username and password which will have been provided to them by their class teacher.
