We attended the Children’s Book Awards. A F Harold was the MC at the event and read some of his poems to the audience. Throughout the event, we sat with Hannah Gold, author of The Last Bear, and had the opportunity to ask her questions about her books, what inspired her to write and what motivates her. We presented a presentation book to Rebecca Cobb, author of A Wild Walk to School. We had the opportunity to meet lots of other authors including: Ross Montgomery (author of I am Rebel), Leonie Lord (author of Grottie), Malcolm Duffy (author of Seven Million Flowers), John Moore (author of Ditching Saskia) and Sam Sedgeman (author of Clockwork Conspiracy). We had lots of books signed by the author and took some goodies back to school.
Our school is part of the Birmingham Children’s Book Group which means that we have the opportunity to read the books on the longlist and vote for them. We enjoy reading all of the newly published books and are proud to be part of a network of schools that actively participate in voting for books. This initiative plays a key role in the Children’s Book Award ceremony, helping to celebrate outstanding literature and determine the winners
