Governing Body Report
Governing Body Report: Cyber Security Group Meetings.
Children from K.S. 2, were selected by teachers last year for being computer savvy and street wise. These children are currently in years 4-6.
In our first meeting, we discussed how our students could be safe on-line and our children suggested several of these ways:
Not sharing personal details.
Not sharing passwords
Being wary of random emails – recognising email authenticity/recognising if it is a scam.
SMART ideas.
The answers reflected the ideas that we had promoted via our Computing lessons and Internet Safety Day activities.
We also asked them what guidance our pupils needed to help at home or to help their parents?
They all agreed that ALL children should be safe and that this could be championed by the parents via filters, controls and information via our school Dojo messages.
We queried how this could be carried out and their suggestions were through the following:
Assemblies
Questionnaires
Quizzes
Parent Workshops: Cyber/On-line safety.
From this first meeting, we were able to ascertain that there were many other avenues we could follow to promote our Cyber Security by putting the children at the helm of this.
In response to their ideas and the targets that we needed to be met we were able to do the following for the second meeting:
I composed a Young Person’s Agreement – As a Cyber Group, what could they do to make sure this has been read, signed and bought back to school?
Action: Group decided to remind pupils and staff at the end of the day to get these signed.
As a Cyber Group, how could they help their year group have the main rules for online safety available to them as a reminder?
Action: Go to the partner classes and check if the SMART/SAFE rules are up at the beginning of the Computing sessions.
This year, the school has undertaken the new Purple Mash scheme of work for Computing and the pupils directed the aspects of the Online safety they would like to focus on first while giving valid reasons for the choices.
The Cyber Group concluded that they would like a Parent workshop.
Mr Nazir – parent governor mentioned Roblox – promoting theft and the glorification of it.
So, we strongly support the idea of a workshop for parents.
Next steps: Set up a Parent Workshop which the Cyber Security Group will be heavily involved in.
